Survey Readiness & Workflow
To implement hydrographic survey operations in accordance with scientific standards and with a high degree of accuracy, the Hydrographic Survey Wing is fully equipped with comprehensive technical facilities.
The department is technically strengthened with 5 vessels for marine survey operations, 4 air-conditioned boats for hydrographic surveys in inland water bodies, 8 dinghies and inflatable boats for surveys in shallow waters, and a mobile survey unit.
With the support of well-trained and experienced technical personnel and advanced hydrographic survey equipment (including bathymetric data acquisition, precise positioning systems, and geo-referenced data acquisition), the department is capable of collecting and analyzing accurate and reliable survey data across rivers, lakes, inland water bodies, coastal areas, and maritime zones, adapting to diverse hydrographic conditions.
All necessary technical arrangements for survey teams and survey boats are coordinated through the respective sub-offices. Upon receiving instructions from the Chief Hydrographer, the survey team commences hydrographic operations under the leadership of the Marine Surveyor or Assistant Marine Surveyor of the concerned office.
During the survey, essential data such as hydrographic, bathymetric, tidal, and current information are collected. The data are then subjected to detailed analysis and processing before being submitted to the Office of the Chief Hydrographer.
At the Chief Hydrographer’s Office, the submitted survey data undergo meticulous technical scrutiny under the supervision of the Assistant Marine Surveyor, Assistant Cartographer, and Deputy Hydrographer. After ensuring compliance with all prescribed standards, the Chief Hydrographer approves and publishes the data and reports, which are subsequently forwarded to the concerned government departments and agencies.
Through this systematic and scientific workflow, the department ensures the delivery of precise survey data, high-quality maps, and reliable technical reports.
